Guiomar Martín-Herrán received a M.S. degree in mathematics and a Ph.D. degree in economics, both from the University of Valladolid, Spain. She is currently a Full Professor of Quantitative Methods for Economics and Business at University of Valladolid. She has undertaken numerous research stays as a visiting researcher at foreign research centers. Among these visits, the one carried out as a guest researcher at GERAD (Group for Research in Decision Analysis), Montreal, Canada, for two years stands out. She is a Senior Member of IMUVa, Research Institute of Mathematics of the University of Valladolid and an Associated Member of GERAD. She is currently member of the executive committee of the International Society of Dynamic Games and associate editor of “Dynamic Games and Applications”, “Journal of Dynamic and Games” and “International Game Theory Review”. She was awarded the Social Council Award of University of Valladolid 2020 in recognition of her academic career. She was Vice-Rector of Economic Affairs at the University of Valladolid from 2010 to 2014.
Her main research areas are dynamic optimization techniques applied to the study of economic and environmental problems, in particular, applied optimal control and differential games. In these areas, she has published in internationally renowned journals such as: Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, Energy Economics, Environmental and Resource Economics, Resource and Energy Economics, Ecological Economics, Management Science, Environmental Modelling & Assessment, European Journal of Operational Research, Journal of Economic Dynamics & Control, Journal of Optimization Theory and Applications, Economic Modelling, Automatica, Journal of the Operational Research Society, Annals of Operations Research, and Mathematical Social Sciences.
Her research is regularly funded by the Spanish State Research Agency. She has led a large number of projects financed by national and regional agencies and participated actively in the evaluation of research projects at the national and international level (Natural Sciences and Engineering Council of Canada, Austrian Science Fund, Ministry of Education, University and Research of Italy, National Science Centre Poland).
Candidates for Council Member
Paola Ovando Pol holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Alcalá. Since 2021 she has been a Senior Scientist at the Institute of Policies and Public Goods of the CSIC, in Madrid. Her career includes several years of postdoctoral training at the Grantham Research Institute of the London School of Economics and at the EAWAG (Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology), as well as her subsequent performance as a senior researcher at the James Hutton Institute, in Scotland, where she developed a line of research on natural capital.
Her research is structured around three lines: the development of integrated economic-environmental models to assess the environmental, economic and social impacts of different territorial and forest management alternatives; the economic valuation and accounting of ecosystem services and natural capital, with spatial and distributive approaches; and the analysis of forest carbon markets, their public policy implications and their role in climate neutrality strategies. She has led and participated in fifteen national and international research projects, collaborating with public administrations, the private sector and third sector organizations.

Marieta Valente is an Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Minho and a researcher at the Research Centre for Economic and Business Policies (NIPE). She holds a PhD in Economics from the University of London and she conducts research in Environmental and Energy Economics and using methods from Experimental Economics. She has published works in relevant international journals such as RAND Journal of Economics, Environmental and Resource Economics, Energy Policy, Forest Policy and Economics, among others. In 2023, she co-authored a Portuguese-language textbook on “Economia do Ambiente – Conceitos e Desenvolvimentos” in Edições Almedina.
Carles Mañó-Cabello is an FWO (Research Foundation – Flanders) Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Economics of KU Leuven (Belgium) and holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Barcelona. His research interests lie at the intersection of natural resource management, pollution, dynamic games and coalition games, as well as macroeconomics and climate change. Since 2022 he has been an elected member of the Executive Board of the International Society of Dynamic Games (ISDG), and he co-organizes, together with Lucia Sbragia, the AERNA webinar series. In 2026 he was a visiting researcher at Duke University (USA).
